MESSIAH ARENA GLOBAL MISSIONS FELLOWSHIP

About Us

Who We Are

Messiah Arena is an interdenominational mission organisation with the vision “that none should perish”- 1Tim2:4. As a global Christian mission development fellowship consisting of Christian professionals, we have an unwavering passion for missions: evangelical missions, medical missions, welfare missions, youths and family empowerment and believers growth in Christ.

We network with other Christians, Mission organisations, and Church denominations to train and support missionaries for the mission fields and also embark on mission outreaches and community transformation in villages and towns.

Messiah Arena Model

The Model

The Arena is the central stage for the demonstration of the power and love of God. Unlike the Arena that is used for sports and other forms of entertainment, The Arena Model is focused on the delivery of spiritual dividends to all mankind. The Arena model is the expression of individual spiritual gift in a synthesised process unified to achieve missions transformation through an integrated evangelistic system designed for a particular purpose. It is a network of individuals and or missions organisations combining their gifts and resources to achieve maximum impact in a target evangelism. It uses a disciplined application of individual gifts and graces for collective action.

The Arena Model rests upon Four Realities and One Application:

1. The reality of differences in individual gifts and graces.

2. The reality of the work being greater than the gifts and graces available in individuals.

3. The reality of the presence of synergy in combined operation of gifts and graces.

4. The reality of individual liberty in the application of gifts and graces while operating within common limits for the achievement of divine purpose.

5. The seamless application of diverse gifts and graces in collective action

Borgu (French: Borgou) is a region in north-west Nigeria and in the northern Republic of Benin. The three major kingdoms of Borgu are Bussa, Illo and Nikki. Bussa is traditionally considered to be the spiritual centre of Borgu, Nikki the centre of political power and Illo the commercial emporium. Poor soils, low rainfall (especially in the dry season), and Fulani slave raids in the 19th century have made Borgu one of Nigeria’s least-populated regions. They mainly engage in cattle and poultry raising, subsistence farming (sorghum, millet, shea nuts, onions, corn [maize], peanuts [groundnuts], cotton, tobacco), and fishing.

OUR WORK

The Lord led us to the Baruba people in 2004. After the initial ground work, we set out for Nikki, Republic of Benin 2005 to explore and commence our missionary work among them. From available information at that time 80% of the Barubas live in Republic of Benin while the remaining 20% dwell around Kaima, Kosubosu and Ilesa-Baruba axis in Nigeria. That first journey was a huge success and we were able to leave behind our missionary, Pastor Annanias Haruna to spear-head the work in the area.

He labored for one year without any result and we decided to withdraw him back to Nigeria in 2006 with the aim of closing the work. As he went back to get his belongings, the Lord gave him a convert, Bro Isaiah who became the first fruit of our effort amongst the Barubas. That was the inspiration that kept us amongst the Barubas and has given rise to the expanded work at the moment.

In 2007, the First Baptist Church Nikki invited Messiah Arena to take over the Pastorate of the church after most of the members had deserted the church. The God of heaven enabled us to stabilize the church and growth began to take place. This created the opportunity to reach out to the surrounding villages and communities. Through our annual Celebrating The King programmes held in Nikki, Okuta and Nngrumi-Gwarana we have been able to support and strengthen the work amongst the Barubas. This has given the work a boost and endeared Messiah Arena in the hearts of many within this people group.

Our Challenges:

The task has suffered largely from dearth of reliable and committed workmen. Some of the missionaries who had worked with us have either abandoned the work or proven to be half- baked Christians themselves. One noticeable characteristics of the Baruba Christians and Pastors alike is unseriousness rooted in lack of deep commitment to Christ. This position is worsened by the influence of the surrounding Muslim population and traditional religion adherents who combine every kind of faith with demonic power. Liberal living, infidelity, alcoholism and poverty are common place amongst the Barubas.

Current initiatives:

We began to think about restructuring the work in 2014 when the Lord laid the burden in our hearts to increase our effort in reaching out to the Barubas. With the help of the Lord we have established more mission fields in Tontaru, Wonko, Agankiru within the Republic of Benin axis and new works are being commenced around Chikanda and Gure in Nigeria. To improve the effectiveness of the work, we have redesigned the ministry structure and missionary responsibilities including the behavioural imperative for missionaries which should expectedly lead us into the future.

Nupe People Group

The Nupes trace their origin to Tsoede who fled the court of Idah and established a loose confederation of towns along the Niger in the 15th century. The proximity of Nupe to the Yoruba Igbomina people in the south and to the Yoruba Oyo people in the southwest led to cross-fertilization of cultural influences through trade and conflicts over the centuries. It is said that the famous Yoruba oba or king, Shango (also known as Jakuta) who was once an Alaafin of Oyo before being deified following his death, was the son of a Nupe (Tapa) woman.

Many Nupe were converted to Islam at the end of the eighteenth century by Mallam Dendo, a wandering preacher, and were incorporated into the Fulani Empire established by the Jihad led by Usman dan Fodio after 1806. However, the traditions of Nupe were retained, hence the ruler of Nupe is the Etsu Nupe rather than being called Emir.

Population & Religion

There are probably about 3.5 million Nupes, principally in Niger State, although a small but growing diaspora of Nupe can be found in Knowle in the West Midlands of England. The Nupe language is also spoken in Kwara and Kogi States. They are primarily Muslims, with a few Christians and followers of African Traditional Religion. The Nupe people have several local, traditional rulers.

Our Work

The Lord led us to Nupe people group in 2013 when we held Celebrating The King 2013 at Patigi, Kwara state. The seed we sowed has germinated as we were called in to partnership last year by the Nigerian Baptist Convention to expand the gospel in the land
